Engineering Sub-15ms Event Streaming Pipelines for ICU Alarms and Telemetry

Core clinical engineering and protocols for Real-Time Medical Event Streaming.

The Stringent Demands of Real-Time Clinical Event Streaming

In intensive care units and operating rooms, physiological monitors generate thousands of data points per second: high-frequency arterial line blood pressures, multi-lead ECG waveforms, and ventilator airflow pressures. A distributed medical software system must process this torrent of real-time events without dropping packets or introducing latency that could delay life-saving clinical interventions.

Exactly-Once Processing Semantics

SaMDSystem implements distributed message brokers (Apache Kafka and NATS) configured with strict Exactly-Once Semantics (EOS). If a network glitch occurs, the system's transactional producer and consumer offsets guarantee that critical events (e.g., 'Ventilator Disconnect' or 'Potassium = 6.8 mEq/L') are neither lost nor processed twice, eliminating alert duplication.
